Gadget Bonanza is a solo event in Warcraft Rumble that is all about buying things from the Grid, Daily Offers, and shop. The event does not include any Coins as rewards, it is about spending Coins, not earning them.
Its one redeeming feature is the Rare-O-Matic that you can get from the event reward tree, but reaching it efficiently requires either an active Azeroth’s Blessing ($4.99 per month) or some luck with the Grid. Therefore, F2P players should carefully consider how much they want to invest in the event.
Gadget Bonanza Reward Tree (February 14 event)
The Gadget Bonanza reward tree in February is the same as in January, so it may remain the same in future events as well.
The full reward tree costs 67,251 Shinies, and you can earn up to 81,700 Shinies from the event challenges, of which 69,700 as F2P.
The available rewards are:
- 8 Big Red Buttons
- 2 Star Tomes
- 4 Modest Tinker’s Gems
- 3 Major Tinker’s Gems
- 3 Mega Tinker’s Gems
- 1 Rare-O-Matic
There are no Coins in the reward tree.
The Gadget Bonanza reward tree requires that you buy all parents of each node. However, the first Mega Gem can be reached from either side, so you do not have to buy the full tree to reach the Rare-O-Matic.
Reaching the Rare-O-Matic requires either 56,750 tickets (Star Tome route) or 52,750 tickets (XP Gem route). If you have Azeroth’s Blessing, you want to take the Star Tome route as shown in the graphic.
If you do not have Azeroth’s Blessing, you need a find a direct Rare from the Grid to reach the Rare-O-Matic, and this can be difficult because direct Rares are not common and there is no way to force one to appear. Even with a direct Rare, you also need to claim 15 Daily Offers in three days to be able to reach the Rare-O-Matic through the Star Tome route. If you cannot do that, you can get there through the XP Gem route.
If the Rare-O-Matic is too far for you, the Star Tomes are the other main reward of the event. For the two Star Tomes, you need to spend a total of 21,750 Shinies. The cheapest way to get there is to buy 20 Minis using the T-shape method to optimize for XP Gems, which will cost you a minimum of 1825 Coins.
The T-shape method
An XP Gem appears on the Grid after 18 minis have been cycled. It needs an open space from the cycled slots, so if you do a full buy with a mini in each refreshed slot, there is no room for an XP Gem to appear. In that case, one appears as soon as there is an empty slot for it.
The T-shape method (or L-shape method, or even a plus-shape method) is a way to maximize the number of XP Gems you get from the Grid.
The starting point is a Grid with an XP Gem on it. You want to buy the XP Gem so that you will also refresh four minis along with the purchase.
Then, arrange the minis so that you will refresh all 5 with a single buy. The shape can be a T, L, or a plus sign. When you buy the mini in the intersection to refresh all five, the new minis also appear in a shape where you can refresh all minis.
Refresh all 5 minis again.
Then, move one mini away from the shape, and refresh 4 minis. The empty slot will now be occupied by an XP Gem. You have bought 4 minis, refreshed a total of 18 minis, and have a new XP Gem available with which you can repeat the process. This 4/5/5/4 process can be repeated endlessly.
I showcase this method on video here:
