How to Get and Use Torches in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Torches are very important in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. While they provide light when walking around at night, town guards will require you to have one out if you walk the town at night. Due to the nature of the setting and time period, nighttime in the region is very dark. So if you don't have a torch, you won't be able to see anything.

Despite how simple they are in principle, it may not be obvious how you actually use a torch in the first place. Thankfully, we've got you covered.

Finding a Torch

How to find a torch

Before we can learn to use a torch, we need to get our hands on one first. You can always buy one from a merchant for under 6 Groschen. The very first merchant you speak to will sell you one, though 6 Groschen is a fairly high price at the very start of the game.

One of the best ways is to simply kill bandits. If you travel between towns, you'll bump into a fair few of them. Simply loot their body, as shown above, and you'll probably find a torch on one of the bodies. Considering you only ever need one torch, this is the best way to get hold of one.

Pro Tip: despite coming under the Other Weapon category, Torch does not have durability loss. Which means you only ever require one torch.

How to get a torch and use it

Once we've got a torch, we need to use it. While the game tells you the hotkey for the torch, which you can see below for each platform.

  • PC - press ‘R’ to take it out.
  • Xbox - Hold down ‘D-Pad Down’ to take it out.
  • PlayStation - Hold down ‘D-Pad Down’ to take it out.

To actually be able to get the torch out, however, we need to place it into the slot in our inventory. Go down to your “Other Weapons” section, and double click/tap the torch, or drag it over to the lit-up spot in your inventory. You can see the slot it uses in the above image.

Outside of being used to light up your path, torches also act as a way to show you are friendly when inside a town. Once night falls and the guards begin to patrol, make sure you have a torch out at all times, or face a telling-off from any guard that walks past. However, if you intend to stealth, it's best you don't get a torch out.

Other Useful Torch Tips

While playing at night is more dangerous, you can also use it to your advantage. Enemies in the forest or at camps will always have a torch or campfire going. The glow from these can be seen from a vast distance, giving you the perfect opportunity to pick them off or prepare for the fight.
