In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, the "Thunderstone" side quest involves retrieving a mystical stone for Kona, a resident of Grund. Described as a finely smoothed, dark-colored stone with a hole in the middle, it's believed to possess magical properties, offering good luck and protection from evil. The quest involves tracking down the stone through various characters and locations, including Thomlin of Horschan, Peter and Hensel from Raborsch and Mlada from Suchdol.
Players will face decisions that can lead to various different outcomes, such as returning the stone to Kona, giving it back to Thomlin, or keeping it for yourself. Let me guide you through this intriguing sidequest and share my tips along the way.
Confronting Thomlin
Once you have accepted the Quest from Kona in Grund, travel towards Horschan and search for Thomlin Bruthans. After questioning him about the Thunderstone you will have various options to obtain information about it from him. Either by asking him to inspect the stone for yourself (you need to pass a Scholarship check for this), challenging him to a fight (this will cost 500 Groschen, which you will get back once defeating him) or by pickpocketing the stone from him. All 3 options will lead to you finding out Thomlins Thunderstone is a fake. He will tell you that the real one was stolen by Peter not too long ago.
Finding Peter and rescuing Hensel
Once talking to Peter in Raborsch near the farm, he will tell you that he also doesn't have the Thunderstone but he claims Hensel has it. But Hensel was captured by Andrew Ramhead and taken to a military encampment in the woods northeast of Raborsch. There are a couple of different options to freeing Hensel:
- Pay the ransom: Talk to a guard near the entrance and ask for entry to speak to Andrew. You can pay a 1000 Groschen ransom to set Hensel free.
- Convince Andrew to release Hensel: This is a very difficult speech check, most likely you won't be able to meet it, even with high persuasion stats.
- Take out the camp: Defeat the sleeping NPCs during the night by stealthy taking them on one by one. Even if they alert the others, during the night most of them will be unarmed when fighting you. (My preferred method)
After freeing Hensel, he will tell you that Ramhead stole the stone and sold it to Mlada in Suchdol, the wife of a farmer. He will also reveal a hidden stash of Groschen belonging to his captors by the “Two Dead Trees”, which will contain 348 Groschen.
Finding Mlada & treating her husband (optional)
After finding Mlada, she will tell you about her reasons for not being able to hand you the stone: her sick husband. You are now able to pickpocket the Thunderstone from Mlada however you can also help her sick husband and in reward receive the Thunderstone from her and also gain a decent amount of reputation by completing the additional side quest “Primum Nil Nocere”.
Treating Peter (Side Quest: Primum Nil Nocere)
Your objective here is to assess Peter’s condition so you can determine the right treatment. Enter Peter's house and interact with him to perform an examination. After examining him and passing three skill checks, you will discover that Peter is suffering from severe anxiety. The next step is to treat Peter and alleviate his anxiety. One of the methods is preparing a chamomile decoction, which will help soothe his nerves. To craft the decoction, you will need chamomile and sage as ingredients. Use the alchemy bench at Suchdol Castle to prepare the decoction.
After providing treatment, you need to give Peter time to recover. You will need to wait for 24 hours in-game for the effects of the treatment to show. During this waiting period, you can use the time to complete other tasks or simply rest.
Once the waiting period is over, return to Mlada and inform her about Peter’s progress. If Peter has successfully recovered, Mlada will reward you with the Thunderstone, as promised.
Choices and Rewards
Once receiving or pickpocketing the Thunderstone from Mlada you are left with three choices on what to do with the stone:
Return it to Kona: Gain access to a new skill teacher (Journeyman Craftsmanship), discounted prices at the horse trader in Grund, get a recipe for Lethean Water (Potion for respecing your character) and 100 Groschen.
Return it to Thomlin: Choose between 150 Groschen or unarmed combat training.
Keep the Thunderstone: Receive a permanent buff to Vitality and Scholarship while holding the Thunderstone. I can't confirm this yet but according to some sources the Vitality buff might include +10% stamina regen, +5% stamina regen for attacks and blocks and a 10% reduction in stamina consumption.
