How to Heal in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Make Healing Potions Without a Recipe

Written by Geekmandem - 11th February 2025

With its deep layers of realistic medieval life, healing is one of the more “gamified” aspects of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. While it's an important aspect of the game, it’s not something the game makes perfectly clear how you should do it effectively.

There are two main ways to heal in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and we’ll go over them here. However, the main focus of this guide is on the healing potions, and why you don’t need to spend 150 groschens to acquire it.

How to Heal in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

The two main ways to heal in Kingdom Come are to sleep or to use a healing potion. Eating will also give you a small amount, though you’ll become overfull long before it becomes useful.

There are also a number of perks that can improve healing, by either making potions better, stopping you from dying to a mortal blow or making sleep more effective. We'll touch on some of those later in the guide.

In this guide, we'll focus on the two most reliable methods of healing, with special attention given to the healing potion.

Healing with Sleep

Resting in a bed is the most effective method for healing in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. When you take damage, your maximum health decreases temporarily, which can only be partially restored through potions. However, sufficient rest generally ensures you're in excellent shape for your next fight.

Pro Tip: Not all sleeping will be as effective. Sleeping in your own bed is the best option, with higher comfort helping you heal faster. While sleeping in an unowned bed also works, and NPC may discover you and end your sleep.

Healing with Potions

One of the best ways to heal in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is to use potions. The main one is Marigold Decoction, which heals you over its 1-minute duration.

How to Make Healing Potions

You won't need to buy the recipe to do this, so you can save 150 groschens. The key is to prepare your station ahead of time.

Please read the recipe instructions first to make your first attempt smoother.

  1. Pour water as your base liquid
  2. Place your Nettle and Marigold on the shelf
  3. Add 1 Nettle to Cauldron
  4. Grind up two lots of Marigold in the Mortar
  5. Place the Marigold into the dish, NOT the cauldron
  6. Pump the bellows five times
  7. Lower Cauldron over fire
  8. Spin the sandglass for two rotations
  9. As the second rotation is about to end, move the caldron off the fire
  10. Add ground Marigold
  11. Use Phial to collect

Pro Tip: Using fresh herbs will give you a higher quality potion yield. We found, however, that in this recipe, making sure the Marigold was fresh was the key. Note that dried herbs count as low quality fresh, but in potions that require multiple herbs (two or more) using one herb dried is normally fine. There are also perks can give you more leeway.

You should now have some Strong Marigold Decoction. You can repeat these steps to make more potions. We found five pumps of the bellows were enough to make two lots of potions without needing to pump the bellows more times.

You can also use your Saviour Schnapps to heal if you are desperate. You can make the potion with the below recipe:

  1. Start with a wine base
  2. Add the nettle to the cauldron and boil for two rotations of the sandglass
  3. Grind the belladonna
  4. Add the belladonna to the cauldron and boil for 1 turn of the sandglass
  5. Move the cauldron up
  6. Pour directly into a phial

Where to Find Marigold and Nettles

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Merigold

Marigold is a fairly common herb that you’ll find all over the world. It’s distinctive orange petals make it easy to spot. For the sake of this guide, however, just head to the Apothecary’s herb garden in Troskowitz, which is full of the stuff.

As for Nettle, it’s seen as a weed, so it tends to grow all over the place. We also found some in the same herb garden, though areas next to the Tavern on the north side also have Nettle growing.

Alternatively, you can buy the herbs you need from any Apothecary in the towns you come across.

Where can I find an Alchemy Bench

There are two good options in the early game. You can either use the one at Bozhena’s House at the start of the game or the one in Troskowitz, where you first start when the world opens up.

You can find the Troskowitz Alchemy Bench on the west side of town in the Apothecary's herb garden. This is your own Alchemy Bench to use whenever you want. The herb garden is also a great location to find free herbs. For some reason, the locals take no issue with you borrowing them permanently.

Otherwise, most major towns have an Alchemy Bench, though you may not always be granted access to them right away.

FAQ

Can I Heal Wounds With Potions

The best way to heal a wound or bleeding is to use a bandage. You will pick up lots of these on your adventure, but it’s wise to clean them up as soon as possible.

Can Other People Heal Me?

The only other person that can heal you is at a bathhouse, which sort of acts as a medical office. All three of the options here will heal you, though the second option and third will fully heal you.

Can Food Heal Me?

Making sure you have high Nourishment will provide a small amount of healing. It’s always best to make sure you are fully fed before using a potion.
