Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Goreclaw the Ravenous encounter in Dustwallow Marsh but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Goreclaw’s army
- Darkspear Troll - Big Bad Voodoo
- Drake - Roost
- Living Bomb - Blast Radius
- Ogre Mage - Ignite
- Prowler - Predatory Instincts
- Vultures - Migration
- Warsong Raider - Saboteur
Goreclaw has Living Bomb, so you want to avoid sending large groups of minis.
Other minis and map mechanics
Goreclaw starts with a group of 8 Raptors on the board that immediately attack your base. Goreclaw’s Raptors have the Motivation talent, so they gain Bloodlust as they pass chests or gold veins. A new group of 8 Raptors spawns every 60 seconds, so at 2:30, 1:30, and 0:30.
Goreclaw’s attacks are special: they deal 250 physical damage, but always at least 50% of the target’s health. Therefore, any minis that have up to 250 health are destroyed in one hit, and minis with more health will always go down in at most two hits.
In normal, Goreclaw attacks one mini at a time. In Heroic, its attacks have a small cleave zone and can hit multiple minis if they are close together.
General strategy
Your first task is to survive Goreclaw’s initial Raptor wave. Deploy close to your base as they arrive. You want your surviving army to push towards the left Tower, so favor positioning on the left side. Most of the time, you cannot contest the first chest, and it is better to take a good defensive position than lose troops trying to get it.
Then, you want to take the left Tower. Be wary of the Living Bomb, and do not send too many minis to the attack. Note that Goreclaw can defend with Prowlers, who will rip ranged minis apart rapidly. You may also need to defend your base from incoming attacks from the right: the regenerating Troll can solo your entire base. Some of the lesser threats can be left for the base to handle.
After you have conquered the Tower, you are approaching the second Raptor wave. Defend against the Raptors.
After the Raptor wave, you want to start pushing at Goreclaw. Squad minis are particularly good at keeping Goreclaw occupied, and Plague Farmers can deal tons of damage with poison as long as your front line holds.
After the Raptor buff, going for both Towers is no longer advisable. Raptors deal so much damage to your base and rip apart tanks so quickly that it is hard to defend for an extended period of time.
