Grimungous Mission Guide

Learn how to complete the Grimungous mission in Warcraft Rumble. Follow our suggested build and strategy for Grimungous, in Hinterlands.

Best Builds

Important talents

Flame Burst on Whelp Eggs adds more damage.

Pick Lock on Defias Bandits gives you more gold from the chests next to your base.

However, no talents are needed to take on Grimungous.

Strategy

  • Take the chests near your base at the start
  • Play Whelp Eggs next to Grimungous
  • While Grimungous’ attack on the Eggs is underway, play an Earth Elemental on the opposite side of the boss, closer than the Eggs
  • Take as many chests as you can and defend your base as needed
  • Angry Chickens are great against Warsong Raiders and Prowlers. They can also take out Huntress and Mountaineer, but you want them to start shooting at your base or another target first before deploying Chickens around them

Boss Strategy

Heroic Grimungous map

This guide focuses on the Heroic Grimungous encounter in the Hinterlands but also works for the normal version.

Minis in Grimungous’s army

  • Bat Rider - Fiery Surplus
  • Chain Lightning - Brilliant Flash
  • Gryphon Rider - Mighty Throw
  • Huntress - Elven Might
  • Mountaineer - Frenzied Spirit
  • Prowler - On the Prowl
  • Warsong Raider - Sunder Armor

Other minis and map mechanics

The main mechanic in the Grimungous battle is the boulders it throws. The boulders instantly kill any ground minis they hit, both yours and Grimungous’ own. They do not hit flying minis. If a boulder hits a Tower you own, it instantly destroys the Tower and is also destroyed.

In Heroic, Grimungous throws boulders every 20 seconds in a repeating pattern of four different pairs (single boulders in normal):

  • 3:10: Inner lanes towards both Towers
  • 2:50: Both lanes towards the right Tower
  • 2:30: Outer lanes towards both Towers
  • 2:10: Both lanes towards the left Tower
  • 1:50: Inner lanes towards both Towers (the pattern starts to repeat)

Attacking Grimungous may slightly delay the boulders as the boss changes actions slowly.

General strategy

Because controlling Towers and using ground minis is difficult against Grimungous, the easiest way to beat it is by using Unbound minis. You can also use Flying minis, but the difficulty to keep Towers means that they have a long way to go to attack the boss.

The best Unbound mini against Grimungous is Whelp Eggs. The Eggs get popped, but the Whelps are Flying so they ignore any boulders and most of Grimungous’ minis too. Grimungous itself can kill them, so you want to distract it by playing an Unbound tank, preferably Earth Elemental, on the opposite side and closer to Grimungous than the Eggs while Grimungous’ attack animation is happening.

Try to take as many chests as you can and defend your base as needed. You do not need to take any Towers.
