Important talents
Obsidian Shard on Earth Elemental is a significant damage increase to The Reak: Earth Elemental has 1175 Health and the two Shardlings have 200 Health each, all of which is converted directly into damage.
Strategy
- Use your Unbound minis to capture the central Tower
- Defend, capture chests, and mine gold
- Angry Chickens are great against Prowlers and Warsong Raiders
- Feed all Earth Elementals to The Reak; you can speed things up by feeding some Quilboars too, if you do not need more minis for defense

Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic The Reak encounter in Hinterlands but also works for the normal version.
Minis in The Reak’s army
- Bat Rider - Fiery Surplus
- Blizzard - Cold Snap
- Plague Farmer - Splashing Pumpkins
- Prowler - Predatory Instincts
- Pyromancer - Conflagrate
- Spiderlings - Envenom
- Warsong Raider - Sunder Armor
Other minis and map mechanics
The Reak has a LOT of Health (12,000) and a 90% damage reduction against Physical, Elemental, and Siege damage. Execute is the only spell or troop that hits Reak in any meaningful way.
However, The Reak eats any of your minis it touches, and while doing so, it takes damage equal to their remaining health. Feeding big minis to Reak is the main way to deal damage to it.
In Heroic, The Reak spawns two Little Reaks at 2:30 and again at 0:30. The Little Reaks have the same abilities as the main Reak. However, they only have 1800 Health, and cannot fully devour minis that exceed their Health. If they meet something like an Abomination, for example, they deal a bunch of damage to it, and die.
General strategy
You have two main alternatives on how to beat The Reak: either you march some big Tanks to it, or you feed it with Unbound minis. While Execute bypasses the damage reduction, it is generally not efficient enough compared to feeding minis to The Reak.
I prefer the unbound plan because the central Tower is in a really annoying position: it can shoot at your troops on multiple lanes and the only ground path to it is very, very long. With unbound minis, you can capture the Tower and have it shoot at enemy minis instead. Then you just defend, cycle through your deck, and feed your biggest unbound minis to The Reak, especially Earth Elemental.
