Important talents
Earth Shield on Frostwolf Shaman helps the Fire Elemental survive against Towers, Prowlers, and Mountaineers.
Strategy
- Send the Fire Elemental + Frostwolf Shaman team to take a Tower and push on to Hexx.
- Support them with damage as needed.
- Defend the base, especially with Angry Chickens, who are great at taking down Prowlers and Warsong Raiders. If you wait until the Mountaineer Dwarf starts shooting at your base, Chickens also blast through Mountaineer really quickly.

Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Vilebranch Hexx encounter in Hinterlands but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Vilebranch Hexx’s army
- Chain Lightning - Storm’s Reach
- Bat Rider - Flaming Pitch
- Darkspear Troll - Serpent Sting
- Mountaineer - Intimidation
- Prowler - Pack Leader
- Spiderlings - Bloated Carapace
- Warsong Raider - Razing Focus
Other minis and map mechanics
Vilebranch Hexx has an extremely long-range Death Coil. The range is 46, which is enough to reach beyond the Towers. The normal version deals single-target damage, while the Heroic version explodes on a radius of 4.
The Heroic Vilebranch Hexx starts with two Darkspear Trolls with the Serpent Sting talent. The Trolls will walk through the middle lane to attack your base.
General strategy
There are two main ways to beat Vilebranch Hexx:
- A Resistant tank with a healer, such as Fire Elemental, can lead the way and tank Hexx’s Death Coil
- Unbounds, especially Whelp Eggs and Quilboar, can take out Hexx
Hexx does not have a lot of Health, so the unbound strategy works well already at even levels and even slightly below Hexx’s level.
Play Whelp Eggs near Hexx, and as her attack animation is ongoing, play Quilboar on the opposite side, closer to Hexx. As the Eggs pop, Hexx will look for a new target, and because the Quilboar is now the closest target, she will turn around to shoot at it instead of the Whelps. Add some other unbound minis, Execute with the Bloodthirsty talent, or the like, and you will have enough damage. You may need to use some cheap minis to defend as well.
However, it is possible to beat Hexx with a good Tank+Healer combo at an even lower level than with Unbound minis. Fire Elemental supported by a Frostwolf Shaman, ideally with the Earth Shield talent, does a good job of pushing through a Tower and all the way to Hexx.
