The Bursting Lightshard is a trinket introduced with The War Within, as a drop from Prioress Murrpray in the Priory of the Sacred Flame Dungeon. With the Priory of the Sacred Flame dungeon rotating in for the Season 2 Mythic Plus pool, we will be able to obtain this trinket at a much higher level than originally available.
How to Obtain the Bursting Lightshard Trinket
The Bursting Lightshard trinket drops from the final boss, Prioress Murrpray, in the Priory of the Sacred Flame dungeon. The trinket will be obtainable in all difficulties: Normal, Heroic, Mythic and Mythic+. The trinket is on the intellect DPS and healer loot tables.
How the Bursting Lightshard Trinket Works
The Bursting Lightshard has a 2 minute cooldown. When used, it summons a targetable Bursting Lightspawn, which sacrifices its health to deal heavy holy damage split between enemies nearby, every 2 seconds until it dies or up to 20 seconds.
The interesting thing with this trinket is the Bursting Lightspawn is healable and can be kept alive by a healer in your group, keeping the light spawn alive results in significantly more damage. During our testing, the Lightspawn would despawn after 20 seconds, this is still significantly longer than the 6 seconds that it lasts without healing it.
During our testing the 678 version of Bursting Lightshard will sacrifice around 1.9 million health every 2 seconds and lasts for 3 ticks without receiving any healing.
The trinket is on all intellect DPS and healer loot tables, meaning a group could potentially run several of these and have a healer keep them alive for additional burst damage.
Healing the Lightspawn
The lightspawn takes significant damage and you have very little time to react to it, while AoE heals do affect the lightspawn, the incoming damage is quite high and it usually requires some spot healing.
It can be difficult to spot the Bursting Lightspawn in large groups, so our recommendation is to have a macro to quickly target the lightspawn so you can heal it.

This macro will use the trinket and apply Renew to the Lightspawn, also applying atonement if you are playing Discipline Priest. After the initial heal you will retarget your previous target.
