Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a big game, with a lot of stuff to do. It can be pretty daunting when the game finally opens up, and you are presented with a huge area of the world to just explore. While you could go around doing what the game tells you to do, you might miss out on some good early quests.
In this guide, we've selected six quests that you can do in the early stages of the game that are must-do quests. These might not all reward incredible treasure, however, they set you up for the game ahead.
Combat Training 1 & 2
The game will give you this quest fairly early, and for good reason. You'll be tasked to find Tomcat at the Nomad Camp, who can teach you the ways of the Swordmaster. We've bunched together both parts of the quest here because the second part is the most useful, but you'll need to do both.
Pro Tip: Make sure to come prepared and save before the duel. If you lose, Tomcat will not fight you again until you are fully healed, and the Nomad camp is not keen on you sleeping there.
The first part of the quest is fairly simple, just do a few combat drills and learn how combos work. Things get a little harder in the second part when Tomcat will ask you to face him in a real duel to prove you know how to master the Master Strike ability. Make sure to utilise the lessons you learnt from him, and he should stop the fight after you land a few hits on him.
Tomcat is someone you will visit a fair few times after this as well. While you can do more of his training after the initial few, he will start requiring money for his services.
Mutt
While technically a side quest, it feels more like a main story plot. Finding Mutt isn't too difficult, but it is fairly time-consuming. The quest will start out with you going to the pond to see if any sign of Mutt can be found. Doing so will reveal that he isn't there, but someone else is, and they are looting bodies. He gives us our first clue, and from here, the wild dog chase begins.
During this adventure, you'll run across the previous quest in this article Combat Training 1&2, so keep that in mind as you get towards the final stages. The quest will also let you meet a few interesting characters, one being a man who found himself stuck in a tree surrounded by wolves. You'll get some good items along the way, especially if you can take out the bandits during the horse retrieval part of the quest.
Eventually, you'll find Mutt, and it's worth checking inside the wolf den after for a nice early-game weapon.
Invaders
A curious quest that will trigger sometime after you leave Troskowitz and later return. Head back to the Tavern, and you'll see a group of Cuman soldiers sitting at the table. If you speak to the Innkeeper first, she'll ask you to speak to them for her, and serve their table. From here, things can go a few different ways. The locals won't be fond of the Cuman's being in the Tavern. For those that don't remember, the Cuman's are the army that burned Skalitz, Henry's hometown, to the ground and killed his parents. So, understandably, you can side with the locals, who also treat you poorly, and deal with the Cuman's.
Pro Tip: While violence is often an easy answer to these quests, we suggest that words could be a good solution here. Not all Cuman's are as bad as they seem.
The quest isn't going to make you rich, but it is a really interesting quest to do. Violence, romance, drinking and much more. The quest does wonders for the world-building of the region, and is well worth letting it play out just to help immerse you in the region more. Depending on how it plays out, you'll also learn some new skills and get hints of more Cuman in the area.
Frog and The Battle of the Frogs and Mice
Lastly, we have a funny side quest in the name of Frog. If you stick with it, it will evolve into a second, even longer quest that resolves the entire issue. At its heart, the quest is about two rival villages arguing over an area of pasture land between the two regions. Both claim it as their own, but neither has any proof. So, they settle for a 50/50 split and then prank each other in a petty squabble.
Pro Tip: There are a lot of ways to handle this quest, so don't feel like you've missed out if you pick a side.
Like many quests in the game, there are a few ways to handle this one. Whatever you choose, there's a funny outcome waiting for you. You can pick a side and play out the multiple sit quests within a side quest as you choose. If you stick with it, you'll enter the second half of the quest, The Battle of the Frogs and Mice.
The second quest is much more of a payoff to the world-building. Take what looks like a silly fight between two villages, and turns it into an epic adventure where you can solve a generational dispute.
FAQ
Do I Have to Do Side Quests in Order?
Nope, tackle them as and when you feel like it. We've had no issues doing things as you choose, with no major time elements put on us with any quest.
What if I Pick the Wrong Side
It's always good to save the game at major points, as is normal with an RPG. However, we find the best way is often just to roll with the punches and let things play out naturally. Go with your gut.
Should I do Side Quests or the Main Story
As of publishing this section, we are 22 hours into the game and haven't progressed the main story beyond the "Wedding Crashers" first part. So, we think you'll be fine to tackle things as you wish.
