Important talents
Splashing Pumpkins on Plague Farmer allows it to shoot at Rivendare from outside its aggro range.
Enchanted Vials on Bat Rider make it more effective against the masses of squads Rivendare sends at you.
Strategy
- Take the left Tower and attack Rivendare from there
- If you can set up a Plague Farmer with distraction, it can be enough to beat Rivendare - Quilboar is a good mini to tank Rivendare, as all of Rivendare’s damage is Elemental

Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Baron Rivendare encounter in Plaguelands, but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Baron Rivendare’s army
- Blizzard - Cold Snap
- Meat Wagon - Filet Trebuchet
- Necromancer - Jeweled Skulls
- Ogre Mage - Frostfire Bolt
- Plague Farmer - Virulence
- Spiderlings - Cave Dwellers
- Vultures - Migration
Meat Wagon can always outrange Towers, even without the range talent Rivendare is using. Rivendare’s Plague Farmer lacks the range talent, so it cannot outrange Towers, but it does have the highest damage talent, Virulence. Virulence and the presence of Ogre Mage, Blizzard, and Vultures makes using Squad minis difficult.
Other minis and map mechanics
Rivendare starts the game with two big squads of Skeletons on his side: 4 Skeletons and 4 Skeletal Mages will start walking down the left and the right lane.
As you kill Rivendare’s minis, their souls go to the middle area for resurrection: after you have killed enough, 8 Skeletons will spawn for you in the middle. Now the roles are reversed: as your minis die, their souls will go to the left and right side of Rivendare for resurrection, and Rivendare will eventually get another two squads of 4 Skeletons and 4 Skeletal Mages each. In Heroic, these Squads gain a level each time they are summoned.
All damage Rivendare deals is Elemental damage, so if you plan to tank it, Resistant is a useful trait.
General strategy
There are a few ways you can beat Baron Rivendare.
Rivendare does not have a lot of Health, so if you have the levels, it can be defeated with Unbound minis. However, there is a big push coming at your base, so Rivendare cannot be raced nearly as easily as some of the other bosses.
It is also possible to tank Rivendare with a Resistant or otherwise beefy tank and a healer, although again, this requires some levels to succeed. Rivendare does deal a fair bit of damage, and he cleaves, so simply having a tank does not keep your other minis safe.
Finally, you can chip away at Rivendare’s Health with ranged minis, especially Plague Farmer with the range talent who can hit Rivendare from outside his aggro range and get some free hits in.
Whichever way you choose, a long fight is difficult to win because Rivendare’s Skeletons and Skeletal Mages keep gaining more levels.
I like to push through left because the chest is there and securing the chest gives you some additional gold. The left Tower is a good base of operations from which to attack Rivendare. You can optionally also take the right Tower and secure access to gold veins.
Taking the Tower in the middle is difficult because there is no path from your base to the middle Tower, only from the middle Tower towards your base. You can take it Unbound minis or with a Meat Wagon from the right lane because Meat Wagons can shoot over the fences, but it is usually not worth the effort.
Meat Wagons shooting over the fences can also cause problems for you because Rivendare’s Meat Wagon can shoot to the left lane from the middle. It can only reach the right-most side of the lane though, so if you send your minis through the far left, they cannot be shot at from the middle.
