Important talents
Gnomish Cloaking Device on S.A.F.E. Pilot and Flame Burst on Whelp Eggs are mandatory to wake Gish up underleveled. As you gain more levels, they become less important.
Bloodthirsty on Execute and Infectious Swipes on Harpies help deal damage to Gish fast enough.
Strategy
- Drop the S.A.F.E. Pilot on top of Gish’s guards on one side, immediately followed by Whelp Eggs on the guards on the other side.
- Take the chest in the middle if you can.
- As Gish is flying towards your base, turn it around with Earth Elemental and use Harpies to attack it from behind.
- Use Blizzard and S.A.F.E. Pilot to delay Gish’s troops, if necessary.

Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Gish the Unmoving encounter in Plaguelands, but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Gish the Unmoving’s army
- Blizzard - Cold Snap
- Dark Iron Miner - Gold Mine
- Defias Bandits - Last Resort
- Ghoul - Taste for Blood
- Necromancer - Jeweled Skulls
- Pyromancer - Pyroblast
- Worgen - Premeditation
Pyromancer with Pyroblast and Worgen with Premeditation deal a lot of damage on their first hits. It can sometimes be useful to bait their first hits into something less important to protect your other minis or base.
Other minis and map mechanics
Gish is a statue at the start of the fight. You need to get Gish down to 50% Health to wake it up. When it wakes up, it deals 100% Elemental damage to nearby minis, instantly killing any that are not Resistant. It also summons two Necromancers at the top of the map, one on each lane. Then, Gish starts to fly towards your base.
Gish is guarded by two Plague Farmers (with the Splashing Pumpkins range talent) and two Skeletal Mages. They respawn after a small delay if killed. Because the guards are on the high ground, they can shoot at minis below without taking return fire. Flying units can shoot at them, and some will even fly up the cliff to attack Gish as well (Bat Rider and Rend).
In Heroic, the Meeting Stones on the sides are guarded by small versions of Gish. They need to be woken up if you want to take the Meeting Stones. Despite being small versions of Gish, they have 3000 Health, more than a Swole Troll. They also have the same explosion that destroys nearby non-Resitant minis when they wake up.
General strategy
Because fighting your way through the Meeting Stones and Gish’s guards shooting at you from the cliffside is tedious, Gish is best woken up with unbound minis.
Deploy a S.A.F.E. Pilot on top of the guards on one side, immediately followed by Whelp Eggs on the guards on the other side. This will wipe out all the guards and let your Pilot and Whelps deal enough damage to Gish to wake it up before the guards respawn.
If you have high-level Whelp Eggs, it can be worth it to use Cheat Death to save them from the explosion and let them deal even more damage to Gish. At lower levels, you have better uses for the gold and the army slot.
You can take the chest in the middle if you get a suitable opener. Gish is a fast encounter, and some of the boss’s opening hands make taking the chest more difficult than it is worth. It is possible to win the fight even without the extra gold from the chest.
If you have minis near the chest and the direction arrow when Gish is about to wake up, you can wiggle the arrow back and forth to keep them there waiting for Gish. Most of the time, this type of micro-management is not necessary.
After Gish starts moving towards your base, you are on a clock. Gish will stop to hit minis, so you can tank it. However, Gish hits hard and melee minis ignore it because it is flying (Swole Troll can hit Gish unless it has the Meatier Elbow talent). Armored tanks are generally the most effective against Gish, especially Earth Elemental who can turn Gish around. Gish has a melee range cleave attack, so you cannot use minis like Harpies against it unless you can turn it around.
