Boss Strategy
This guide focuses on the Heroic Tar Tyrant encounter in Un’Goro Crater, but also works for the normal version.
Minis in Tar Tyrant’s army
- Bat Rider - Enchanted Vials
- Firehammer - Blazing Speed
- Gargoyle - Aerial Superiority
- Living Bomb - Blast Radius
- Molten Giant - Bolster
- Vultures - Feeding Frenzy
- Warsong Grunts - Command
Warsong Grunts buff the damage dealt by Beasts map-wide, which makes Tar Tyrant’s Raptors quite deadly if they manage to connect to their target.
Other minis and map mechanics
Tar Tyrant periodically spawns Raptors. In Heroic, they are equipped with the Strength in Numbers talent, which increases their damage by 10% for each other Raptor nearby. The Raptors spawn at the start of the map and every 35 seconds thereafter (at 2:55, 2:20, 1:45, and so on).
The area around Tar Tyrant pulses with poison. All minis within a radius of 9 from the Tar Tyrant receive one stack of poison every 0.75 seconds.
General strategy
Defend against the initial push. If you have Whelp Eggs in your opening hand, you can place them at the crossroads where the Raptors come to soften them up. Place them more to the right to avoid them from being hit by the left Tower. The crossroads is a good spot for Whelp Eggs also against the other Raptor swarms.
Other than that, defend close to your base. Tar Tyrant may send a Gargoyle or a Molten Giant, or both. If you manage to steal one, it can help you take the left Tower after you have succeeded in beating back the first attack.
Then, take the right Tower and be prepared to defend against the timed Raptor spawns. Take the right Tower when you can, and start attacking the Tar Tyrant.
