We already know that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is going to be a massive video game, and that's without any DLC considered. As time goes on, however, any upcoming DLC is going to make the game even larger.
While the official Assassin’s Creed Shadows roadmap only has DLC currently planned, it’s fair to assume that there will be a lot more than that. As part of the pre-order for the game, we know that Claws of Awaji is coming soon after release. This will be a continuation of the story of Yasike and Naoe, but beyond that, we'll have to wait and see.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows DLC roadmap
Previous Assassin’s Creed titles have had season passes or expansion passes. For Shadows, in an attempt to appease angry fans, Ubisoft has taken a step away from that style of DLC release.
In fact, from our research, it looks like it's entirely possible that Ubisoft may have no major plans to release future content, period. With the Claws of Awaji expansion being made by Assassin’s Creed Mirage studio separate from the main game, it does sound like this game could be very much a one-and-done.
Shadows will also not feature a New Game+ mode at release; instead, it will come later if fans of the game want it. It very much sounds like Ubisoft is making it very clear that you can buy Assassin’s Creed Shadows, preferably on day one for the DLC, and then just enjoy the full game as it's meant to be played.
If that changes, or if the game sells well enough, we will be sure to update this story as soon as we know. But for now, it looks like the days of us getting upwards of five DLC packs for an Assassin’s Creed game are over.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows Claws of Awaji Expansion
Claws of Awaji is the first, and currently only, DLC planned for Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
The DLC will see Naoe and Yasuke journey to the unique island of Awaji, a land steeped in enigmatic beauty. The island, which is located west of Osaka, will see the pair try to escape after becoming trapped. Players will need to recover a forgotten treasure while evading the traps and ambushes set by lethal new enemies.
The expansion will also give you access to a new weapon the Bō, an exciting new weapon type for Naoe, and unlock new abilities, and a new gearing system. The DLC will feature “10 hours of additional content”, and will take place once you finish the main story of the base game.
While the DLC will be available for purchase after release, it’s worth noting that it is a free pre-order bonus right now. It comes with any copy of the game, provided you purchase it before the game releases. The DLC is set to release “later in 2025.”
By pre-ordering, you will also unlock the “Thrown to the Dogs” quest chain. This will likely be patched for everyone else at a later date, though no details of the quest are available at this time.
