Best Armour in Assassin's Creed Shadows and How to Get It

Written by Geekmandem - 1st April 2025

Assassin's Creed Shadows has some great gear for both Yasuke and Naoe, but locating it and knowing what each one does can be tricky, especially if you're looking for a specific effect.

As you adventure in the world of Assassin's Creed: Shadows, you'll be exposed to the game's loot system. It's a fairly simple system, with six slots to change, two for weapons, one for a horse, one for a trinket, and two for armour. The two armour slots are our main focus today, and specifically, we'll be looking at legendary armour.

In the guide below, we'll look at five of the best bits of armour you can get for Yasuke and Naoe, in our opinion, of course. We've also included our pick for the best engraving for each. We've kept the list to just five options (two for Naoe and three for Yasuke).

Best Armour for Naoe in Assassin's Creed Shadows

When looking for armour options as Naoe, we've favoured those that add to her build, rather than flat % increases to her kit. Naoe will always be a squishy character; it's in her nature, so giving her more tools is ideal. While her armour will still give her more Health, it's never going to get to Yasuke's levels, so let's look at our top picks for Naoe's armour.

Mamushi Snake Robes

Location - Nagahama Castle, Nagahama, Omi - Legendary Chest

Effect - Dead bodies release a poison cloud when investigated by an enemy

Best Engraving - Increase poison buildup

When playing as Naoe, the best thing we found to do in our time playing was to use items which add to Naoe's archetypal stealth-based gameplay. With Assassinations being such a big part of Naoe's gameplay loop, adding a poison effect to bodies is a great way to enhance that aspect of the game. While you'll normally just kill everyone, it's good to have a way of being notified if any enemy finds a body.

Swift Shinobi Hood

Location - Kumimiyama Fort, Mibuno Vale, Iga - Top of the large tower

Effect - Slow down time when detected

Best Engraving - +1 Health Segment removed on Assassinations.

A key part of the gameplay loop while playing as Naoe is balancing your skills to get the best out of her style. While she can plan her attacks, assassinations, and routes of escape, sometimes mistakes happen. For those situations, the Swift Shinobi Hood comes into its own. If you are spotted, it will slow down time, allowing you to react, and either escape or deal with the target that spotted you.

Outside of the obviously strong perk, the Hood also has great Health and Critical Chance stats, alongside a good Adrenaline Gain. We recommend a second perk that increases the Health Segment damage to an enemy when using an assassination.

Best Armours for Yasuke in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Yasuke is a fighting master. Throw him into combat and he'll come out on the winning side. Unlike with Naoe, for Yasuke our goal is to enhance what he's already good at. From mastering the ranged builds, to doing even more damage in combat, our picks for Yasuke are all about raw damage. Check out our selections below and how to get them.

Master Archer Outfit

Location - Tsuruga Castle, Sotomo Gate, Wakasa - Legendary Chest

Effect - +200% damage with Ranged Weapons while out of combat

Best Engraving - Instantly charge arrows

This is an incredible piece of gear and it pairs really well with the Master Archer Headband, which slows down time on Headshots every 8 seconds. Playing at range is a super fun way to play Yasuke and can also be highly effective with the right gear & abilities. The rest of his stats and abilities will mean you'll still face down any foe in melee anyway.

If you can find a safe spot in a castle or stronghold, Yasuke can easily pick off entire camps of enemies from a safe vantage point. A 200% damage headshot is likely going to take out almost any enemy. At the very least, it will thin the herd enough for you to take on the remaining enemies with very little competition.

Protector's Armor

Location - Nijo Palace, Kyoto, Yamashiro - Legendary Chest

Effect - Can Parry unblockable attacks

Best Engraving - +24% damage on next hit after a Parry

The Protector's armour is an excellent item if you like to fight enemies face on with Yasuke. Being able to parry any of the red attacks is a huge plus, and is a game changer when fighting large groups of enemies.

Outfit of the Legendary Ronin

Location - Miyazu Castle, Miyazu Bay, Tamba - Legendary Chest

Effect - +50% damage while in combat after a Brutal Assassination

Best Engraving - 50% chance to negate projectiles

While Naoe is the stealth kill master, Yasuke is surprisingly also a rather capable assassin. If you like to open combat with a Brutal Assassination, then the Legendary Ronin outfit is easily one of the best in the game. Starting a castle siege with a Brutal Assassination likely means you'll be able to maintain the 50% damage buff for the duration of the castle attack.

While slightly situational, and requiring setup, the armour is one of the best, if you can keep the buff uptime going as you work through an entire castle or fort.

FAQ

Should I wait to reach a higher level before unlocking legendary gear?

No, you can get the best gear early and just upgrade it as you play. If you like a piece of armour and want to keep using it, then just upgrade it every five levels to bring it up to your level.

Can you upgrade armour to legendary status?

No, but you can bring any item up to your level, but it's best to save the materials for Legendary items.
