Test Your Might Trophy - Complete the Tournament in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Written by Geekmandem - 28th March 2025

During your adventures in the late-game phase of Assassin's Creed Shadows, you'll unlock the Tournament quest, which eventually leads to the Test Your Might Trophy.

Sadly, for people reading the trophy list and asking, "Where is the Tournament?" it's not something you can get right away. You will need to be in Act 2, which is after you've unlocked Yasuke and once Yasuke and Naoe have done their first set of main quests together. It should unlock once you have defeated nine of the twelve Shinbafuku; these are the main targets you need to take down from the start of the game. If you're around level 35+, you'll have it fairly soon.

Below is our guide about where to find The Tournament, the rewards, and what you have to do.

Pro tip: The Tournament actually becomes somewhat replayable once completed. This lets you fight Animus objective enemies, as shown above (he had a head before the fight).

Find the Tournament in AC Shadows

To get the Tournament started, you'll find the quest starts just outside your Hideout. Down the path from your Hideout (you have to leave), you will find Ota Gyuichi. He will explain that your help is needed and that bandits have taken over the Tournament.

This quest will require you to find Gyoji, who is located at the Ominesanji Temple in Yamato. This is where The Tournament takes place.

Test Your Might - Ring the Bell

Now it's time to do the Tournament. Head over to the bell to start the first encounter. Below are the names of the five enemies, how to beat them, and their rewards:

Pro tip: Yasuke makes these fights much easier. Use heavy attacks to cheese the fights, stay at range, and use a Kanabo or Naginata.

Boss Name Tactic Reward
Lady Masago Avoid the final attack of her combo as it's a heavy attack. Agile Naginata of Bewilderment - Epic Naginata for Yasuke
Lord Suguru Will use heavy attacks only, and use a bow if you run away from him.

Fancy Katana of Efficiency - Epic Long Katana for Yasuke

Barraging Bow of Service - Epic Bow for Yasuke

Lord Hokuto Once again, dodge his heavy attacks. He uses a Kanabo, which makes him very slow. Blazing Kanabo of Wounding - Epic Kanabo for Yasuke
Lady O-Sen A quicker enemy, and the only one who gives a reward to Naoe. Avoid her kick. Silent Katana of Service - Epic Katana for Naoe
Lord Unkai Unkai has no armour, but uses very fast attacks. Parry his combo for an easy victory.

Vengeful Foe - Legendary Naginata for Yasuke

Buildup After Parry - Legendary Engraving

Pro tip: Vengeful Foe is a great weapon to do the Final Hearing Trophy when used alongside the perk from Bloodshade Katana.

Then, go back to Guoji, who will be standing on the hill to complete the quest. Once you do, you'll earn the Test Your Might Trophy or Achievement.

You can continue to talk to Guoji, who will tell you "Trust me, I will find you when the next challenger comes." this hints at the fact the Tournament is used again for the Animus challenges.

FAQ

Is The Tournament required to complete the game?

No, it's a side quest, but it's one of many locked behind main story progression.

Can Naoe complete the Tournament?

Yes, Naoe is perfectly able. However, Yasuke is better in a one-on-one combat situation, especially against this type of enemy. We tried as Naoe, and found Yasuke made it 10 times easier.

Can you do the Tournament again after?

Technically yes, and technically no. As you played it the first time, the Tournament is not doable again. However, you will sometimes see its location used for an Animus quest, which will ask you to "Ring the Bell" and defeat enemies. These enemies are strong waves of enemies, rather than one big elite.
