Inscription in The War Within (Khaz Algar Inscription) has kept a very similar layout to Dragonflight. You will be milling herbs to produce pigments, converting those pigments into inks and creating items such as missives and Vantus Runes.
This guide is what we think is the most efficient way of leveling your inscription profession, focusing on minimal crafts while not breaking the bank.
Inscription Trainer & Crafting Table Location
The Inscription trainer is Brrigan, who is located in the South of Dornogal near the southern entrance to Dornogal. The Inscription Crafting Table is located next to the trainer.
List of Materials Required
This is a rough list of materials required to get Khaz Algar Inscription to 80 without using many work orders. You can use the lowest quality or the cheapest quality material as it doesn’t impact your chance of leveling:
- 3000 Distilled Algari Freshwater (Inscription vendor)
- 1000 Mycobloom
- 500 Luredrop
From level 80 to 100 will require you to use work orders, and thus the mats will vary from there.
Leveling The War Within Inscription
In general, The War Within Inscription is the fastest profession to level, you will reach level 80 in a flash, but it requires a good amount of herbs which might be expensive. However, the payoff is that you will be able to fill quite a few work orders where you make your gold back.
Note: This guide will assume you choose Pursuit of Knowledge as your first specialization. This will be explained in more detail later in the guide.
Level 1-20
When you start Inscription, the trainer will only have a single recipe for you, which is Khaz Algar Milling. Milling uses 10 herbs, and which pigment you receive depends on which herb you decided to crush. The quality of the herb doesn’t increase the amount of pigment you receive, just the quality of the pigment. So, you can use whichever quality of herb is the cheapest for the purpose of leveling.
You can read our guide on what pigment you get from milling the different Herbs to make sure you are milling the correct herbs.
In total, you will need to Mill about 1000 Mycoblooms and 500 Luredrop, which will definitely bring you to level 20. However, resourcefulness (which you might get along the way) gives a chance to use less materials, so start with Milling:
- 400 x Mycobloom
- 200 x Luredrop
This should be enough to reach level 20, and you now have the mats for the next craft. Once you run out of pigment, and you will, just craft another batch of Mycobloom and Luredrop pigments.
Level 21-30
Return to the Inscription trainer and learn an array of new recipes, of which one will be Apricate Ink.
This recipe will turn green at level 25 and gray at level 30. Craft enough to reach level 30 and then stop.
Level 31-40
Talk to the Inscription trainer and learn new recipes. Now craft these recipes in the following order:
- Boundless Cipher.
- Lightweight Scribe’s Quill
The Scribe’s Quill is equipable, and if you get Resourcefulness or Multicraft as a stat you should equip it. If you got a quill with Ingenuity or Crafting Speed, make a second one to hopefully get Multicraft or Resourcefulness. Don’t repeat this craft more than a couple of times, as it will become a waste of materials.
Continue to craft the Boundless Cipher until the recipe turns green at level 35 and finally gray at level 40.
Level 41-80
At level 40 the Inscription Trainer will have several recipes, however, they are all very expensive to craft. Instead, we recommend that you specialize into Pursuit of Knowledge.
Just by selecting this specialization (you do not need to put any points into it) you will learn the Algari Treatise on Inscription recipe, which is the recipe for the weekly knowledge point for the Inscription profession. This recipe will be orange until level 80, and by crafting it you will randomly learn the treatises for the other professions.
All treatise recipes will require 1 Boundless Cipher, 2 inks, and 2 of either: Leyline Residue, Crystalline Powder, Viridescent Spores or Writhing Sample.
Craft 40 treatises until you reach level 80 Inscription.
At first they will be Inscription ones, which can be useful even if you can only use one a week, you can still have a stockpile of them for future weeks. As you learn new Treatise recipes, make sure to check your work orders, make a stockpile for your second profession and have alts/friends/guildies send work orders.
Level 81-100
At level 80 Inscription, you can unlock all 4 specialization trees.
We recommend the Careful Carvings specialization, going into the Combative Curiosities sub-specialization and then further specializing in Staves or Torches. Either of those specializations will, by just choosing them, teach you a recipe that requires a Spark of Omens (Vagabond’s Baton or Vagabond’s Torch), and you don’t have to spend a single knowledge point to get there.
From level 80 Inscription and onwards, you should continue to craft treatises until they go gray at level 95, while keeping an eye open for work orders for the staff or torch.
Though regular Inscription work orders are contested by other crafters and limited in how many you can do; you are now able to use the new patron system (NPC work orders). The NPCs will post work orders for Spark items, and although they do not always provide all the materials, they will always provide the Spark of Omens. Through this system you should be able to find work orders for the staff or torch.
Following this guide we expect you to reach level 100 Inscription in an afternoon, provided you have access to or can afford the materials.
Darkmoon Faire
When Darkmoon Faire is active, you can gain 2 skill points and 3 knowledge points by completing a short quest from Sayge Called Writing the Future.
We recommend leaving this as late as possible to get the most value out of the increased skill points.
