Cooking in The War Within starts with you processing raw materials into usable ingredients, with so many different fish and meats in the game, you might be asking yourself which one is the best to process into Portioned Steak, Spiced Meat Stock and Fresh Fillet.
We have worked with the in-game community called Kitchen Overload (it can be found using the in game community tool on the North American servers), run by Trashslap, to give you a list of which are the best Meat and Fish to break down. A big thanks to them for doing a lot of in depth testing on cooking and sharing their results with us to produce this article!
All of the results from testing are from maxed out cooking skill with both Blue (rare) Profession Equipment, so your results may be slightly different depending on your cooking skill and Profession Equipment quality.
Fresh Fillet
Based on the results from Trashslap and his community’s testing, Fish can be put into 3 tiers; high yield, medium yield and low yield. We have listed the fish that fall within these categories and the approximate fish filet that each produces.
When you are producing materials we always recommend checking the price on the auction house as some fish yielding lower amounts may be significantly cheaper, and therefore more cost effective to purchase than the categories above it.
High Yield
The list below shows all high yield fish, they are the best Fish to use to create Fresh Fillet, as they will produce 8-9 Fresh Fillet for every 5 fish you use:
Medium Yield
The list below shows all medium yield fish, they will produce between 6-7 Fresh Fillet for every 5 fish:
Low Yield
The list below shows all low yield fish, they will produce between 4-5 Fresh Fillet for every 5 fish:
- Nibbling Minow
- Bismuth Bitterling
- Dilly-Dale Dace
- Regal Dottyback
- Goldengill Trout
- Specular Rainbowfish
- Dornish Pike
- Bloody Perch
- Crystalline Sturgeon
- Whispering Stargazer
Portioned Steak and Spiced Meat Stock
Portioned steak and Spiced Meat Stock is crafted from 5 of any of The War Within meats. Which meat you pick will depend a lot on the current auction house price, however, the testing found that there are 2 types that the meat falls into, Low Yield and High Yield.
High Yield
High Yield meats will give between 6-7 Portioned Steak per craft or 6 Spiced Meat Stock.
The High Yield meats are:
Low Yield
Low Yield meats will give between 1-3 Portioned Steak and a single Spiced Meat Stock.
The Low Yield meats are:
- Cinderbee Belly (also produces Hot Honeycomb)
- Clipped Bird Wing
Mycobloom
Players with the cooking skill can also turn Mycobloom into Chopped Mycobloom. The Quality of the Mycobloom here matters, the higher the quality the more materials you will receive.
The table below shows the approximate Chopped Mycobloom that are produced with the different quality ranks of Mycobloom.
Mycobloom Rank | Chopped Mycobloom Produced |
Rank 1 | 5 |
Rank 2 | 7 |
Rank 3 | 8 - 9 |
Rank 1 Mycobloom produces around 5 Chopped Mycobloom per craft. Whereas, Rank 2 will produce around 7 and Rank 3 will produce 8-9. Because of this we recommend always checking the price on the auction house.
We hope this helped you get the most out of your cooking skill and helped make producing the materials for your food as profitable as possible.
