Introduction

Hey everyone, and welcome to the Necrotic Wake dungeon guide for season 1 of The War Within! In this guide I’ll be going over the abilities of all the trash mobs and bosses throughout the dungeon as well as how I recommend you handle them. I’ll be focusing on the mythic and M+ versions of the dungeon, but it still applies to both normal and heroic difficulties as well. I’ll also be including my recommended, PUG friendly route via the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon for anyone interested.

Some background on myself, my name is Tactyks and I am an avid M+ player, achieving the 0.1% M+ title in every season it has existed, as well as competing in The Great Push in season 4 of Shadowlands. I also create M+ and Raid guide content on my YouTube and Twitch channels, so be sure to stop by and say hi!

If you are using the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon, you can import my recommended route using the following link: https://wago.io/Jj7jul9Z2

Special Weapons

Spread throughout the dungeon are several different weapons you can interact with to gain a one-time use ability as an extra action button. These abilities are unique, so one player cannot pick up multiple of the same weapon type, however you can pick up one of each different weapon. Note that weapons must be used in the order you picked them up, with the most recently obtained weapon first.

Here are the weapons and their corresponding ability:

  • Bloody Javelin - Deals physical damage to all enemies between you and your target, applying a stacking DoT and 20% damage amp to them for 16s
  • Discharged Anima - Deals arcane damage and interrupts to all enemies within 10yds of you every second for 8s
  • Discarded Shield - Reduces damage taken by 50% for you and all allies within 8yds for 6s

The location of these weapons can be found in the Mythic Dungeon Tools addon. In terms of where to use them, I recommend stacking all your Javelins and Anima weapons on the 3rd boss to try and burst him before your group gets overwhelmed.

Video Guide

Blightbone Trash

  • On death these mobs explode, applying the Disgusting Guts Disease DoT to all players
  • Drain Fluids targets a random player, use an interrupt or CC after the channel starts
  • Be aware of additional random target damage from Throw Flesh
  • Bone Claw targets the tank, use defensives as needed
  • Successful melee attacks stack up the Seething Rage buff on the mob, soothe this occasionally to reduce the damage done to the tank
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Necrotic Bolt targets the tank, use any spare interrupts on this cast
  • Clinging Darkness debuffs a random player, jumping to another person if dispelled
  • Wrath of Zolramus deals heavy party damage, use defensives and healing CDs to survive
  • Occasionally a Patchwerk Soldier will spawn from a nearby portal, tanks be sure to get aggro on them

Blightbone Boss Fight

Before engaging the boss you’ll want to make sure you clear enough trash in the area, as the fight has quite a bit of area denial.

Heaving Retch targets a random player, doing a frontal after a short delay that they cannot avoid, applying a Disease DoT on them, and spawning 3 Carrion Worm adds. I recommend having your party be stacked, then when a player is targeted they can move the frontal behind the boss, use a defensive to survive the initial hit, and dispel the disease DoT off of them.

These Carrion Worms will fixate random players, attempting to use Blood Gorge on them. If successful they gain a stacking 30% damage increase, which causes them to explode at 5 stacks applying a lethal DoT to your group. Use slows and CCs to stop this from happening, slowly kiting as a group as needed, and cleave them down. On death these mobs will spawn a puddle of Fetid Gas for 2mins as area denial.

The boss itself will occasionally spawn a puddle of Fetid Gas underneath him as well, meaning positioning is quite important so you don’t run out of space. Outside of that, tanks just be aware of the Crunch tank buster and use defensives as needed.

Amarth Trash

  • Boneflay targets the tank, use a defensive or bleed cleanse to remove the debuff
  • Necrotic Bolt targets the tank, use spare interrupts on this cast
  • Shadow Well spawns a small puddle under the tank, be ready to move when it spawns
  • This mob has minions with it, which are unkillable but will instantly die upon defeating this mob
  • Animate Dead spawns more minions over 3s, use a CC to stop this channel
  • Necrotic Bolt targets the tank, use spare interrupts on this cast
  • Grim Fate targets a random player, move away from your group if targeted
  • This mob is unkillable but will instantly die upon defeating the connected Necromancer
  • Frostbolt targets a random player, use spare interrupts on this cast
  • I recommend using a hard CC on this mob and ignore it to free up interrupts
  • This mob is unkillable but will instantly die upon defeating the connected Necromancer
  • Shoot targets a random player, be aware of the extra damage
  • Bonemend heals a mob for 10% of their health, use interrupts on this cast
  • Final Bargain heals a mob to 80% health but applies a DoT to them, try to use CCs to delay this cast
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Tanks point the Gruesome Cleave frontal away from your group
  • Make sure to interrupt the Rasping Scream cast
  • Focus damage into the mob when it gains Boneshatter Shield, as destroying it deals heavy damage to it
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Necrotic Bolt targets the tank, use spare interrupts on this cast
  • Grim Fate targets a random player, move away from your group if targeted
  • Avoid the orbs spawned by Death Burst
  • Purge off the shield created by Dark Shroud
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Shatter targets the tank, use defensives as needed
  • Save mobility to run away from the Reaping Winds pull in and AoE hit
  • Avoid the swirlies spawned under all players by Frigid Spikes

Amarth Boss Fight

Necrotic Bolt targets random players, keep an interrupt rotation on this to reduce your group's damage intake.

Occasionally the boss will gain Unholy Frenzy, if you have a soothe use it here to remove the enrage effect.

Land of the Dead will spawn 5 Reanimated minions that you’ll want to group up and cleave down. When the boss casts Final Harvest, it will deal heavy damage to the party for each living minion, or spawn an 8yd AoE around the body of a dead minion that you’ll want to avoid. For each dead minion or player after this cast the boss will gain stacks of Tortured Echoes, which deals group damage for 30s that you’ll need to heal through, using defensives as necessary.

On top of this, the boss will intermittently face a random player and use Necrotic Breath, a frontal attack that rotates from the initial position. Be aware of this rotation and dodge accordingly.

Surgeon Stitchflesh Trash

After defeating Amarth, you’ll be able to interact with nearby angels to take you up to the necropolis, where you must defeat all the trash in order to start the RP to engage the boss.

  • Goresplatter is the most important cast, be sure to interrupt it
  • Drain Fluids targets a random player, use an interrupt or CC after the channel starts
  • Be aware of additional random target damage from Throw Flesh
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Tenderize targets the tank, beware of your damage intake as your stacks increase and kite/immune if necessary to clear your debuff
  • Mutilate also targets the tank and hits significantly harder, use defensives for this hit especially if you have a few stacks of Tenderize
  • Throw Cleaver targets a random player and will hit the first thing in the path, aim this at trash mobs for a damage boost
  • Occasionally will attempt to heal a construct with Repair Flesh, use an interrupt or CC to stop the channel
  • Bone Claw targets the tank but is not dangerous on its own
  • Be sure to avoid the Spine Crush AoE around the mob
  • If a Flesh Crafter dies this mob gains Vengeful Rage, use a soothe if you have one
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Drain Fluids targets a random player, use an interrupt
  • Throw Cleaver targets a random player and will hit the first thing in the path, aim this at trash mobs for a damage boost
  • Be aware of additional random target damage from Throw Flesh
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Be prepared to run away from the mob if chosen by Morbid Fixation
  • Throw Cleaver targets a random player and will hit the first thing in the path, aim this at trash mobs for a damage boost
  • Separate Flesh targets the tank but is not dangerous on its own
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • Tenderize targets the tank, beware of your damage intake as your stacks increase and kite/immune if necessary to clear your debuff
  • Mutilate also targets the tank and hits significantly harder, use defensives for this hit especially if you have a few stacks of Tenderize
  • Avoid the random target frontal from Gut Slice
  • This mob is immune to CC
  • If possible avoid standing in melee of this mob as it deals constant ticking damage from Disease Cloud
  • Mutilate targets the tank, use defensive as needed
  • Spew Disease targets a random player, use a defensive and be ready to move out of the puddle the spawns underneath you

Surgeon Stitchflesh Boss Fight

To start the encounter Stitchflesh is hiding on his work table, protected by Noxious Fog which players need to stay away from. While away from the fight he will continuously use Stitchneedle on random players, dealing physical damage and applying a 10s Bleed to them. He will also throw Embalming Ichor at random players, leaving behind puddles which should be avoided.

Instead of the boss you’ll initially be fighting a Creation mob, which you can use to bring Stitchflesh into the fight, thanks to its Meathook ability. This works a lot like the Throw Cleaver ability from the trash, so you need to have the targeted player point this at Stitchflesh before it locks into place, then make sure all players avoid the projectile as it stops on the first target hit. Outside of this, the mob also does constant ticking damage to the party through Festering Rot, which stacks up to 15 times, and will hit the tank with Mutilate, which can be especially dangerous when multiple Creations are alive.

After being hooked, Stitchflesh will continue to throw out Embalming Ichor puddles, but will no longer use Stitchneedle, instead hitting the tank with Sever Flesh which is fairly low damage and not something to worry about. He also will use Morbid Fixate on a random player, just like a previous mini boss, which you can again interrupt with the Creation’s Meathook ability. AFter roughly 30s of fighting the party, Stitchflesh will Escape back to his workstation and you’ll need to pull him down once again to continue damaging him. Right after doing this he will spawn an additional Creation mob you’ll need to deal with.

In terms of how you should aim your Meathooks, every odd hook should be aimed at the centre of Stitchflesh’s workstation to pull him down, as he will jump back up during the cast of these hooks. Every even hook should be aimed directly at the boss to interrupt the fixate. For damage, you want each creation to cast at least 2 hooks (or 3 for the first creation), but you do want to kill them shortly after the spawn of the next Creation so that you don’t get overwhelmed with group or tank damage.

Nalthor the Rimebinder Boss Fight

Icy Shard is spam cast on the tank, don’t be fooled by the name though as this actually deals physical damage!

Frozen Binds targets a random player, make sure all players move out of the 16yd AoE before using a dispel or freedom effect to clear it. Note that you can pre-freedom this effect during the cast time and it will do nothing.

Occasionally the boss will gain Icebound Aegis, absorbing damage and dealing ramping frost damage to the party every 3s. It’s important to destroy these as quickly as you can, and on shields you don’t have damage be sure to use healing CDs and defensives to survive the additional damage.

When Comet Storm is cast, 3yd swirlies spawn under all players every 0.5s for 4s. Try not to cut other players off and stutter step every second to conserve space if possible. If you have multiple melee players you can opt to have them stack up and rotate in the same direction around the boss when this happens to maintain boss uptime.

Roughly every minute the boss will randomly target a DPS player with Dark Exile, sending them to a side platform where they must dodge swirlies and defeat a Zolramus Siphoner within 50s or they are killed. This mob has one important cast in Enfeeble which you’ll want to interrupt. Upon killing the mob you’ll be sent back to the boss platform and gain Champion’s Boon, increasing your Crit by 100% for 40s.

The longer it takes you to kill this mob the more stacks of Frigid Cold you’ll gain, which drops a puddle underneath you when it expires based on your stacks. This means when you return to the boss platform, you’ll want to move to one of the corners initially to drop this puddle off somewhere that doesn’t hinder the rest of your party.
