With the release of Patch 11.0.7, Blizzard made some significant changes to crest acquisition and crafting with crests. In this guide, we break down all the changes with Crests rewarded at the different key levels as well as the reduced Crest cost for crafting max item level crafted gear; we hope this information helps make the changes clearer, to know what key level to run, and help you decide how to use your crests.
New Crest Amounts for Time and Untimed Keys
Blizzard have changed the amount of crests that you receive from completing keys at higher levels. Increasing the amount of Crests you get for both timed and untimed keys, as well as increasing the highest key that the Crests scale up to.
The table below details what crests you would get for completing a key both in time and out of time:

These changes make it much more worthwhile to run the highest key you are capable of completing. For the purpose of acquiring Crests, it will not matter as much if you deplete your key, as the amount of crests awarded will be doubled (or even tripled on a 12 key) compared to the 5 you used to receive for an untimed key.
Likewise, you don’t need to run lower keys just to be more efficient; you will now get more Crests than previously for higher keys, up to level 12, which previously maxed at level 8.
Crafting Requires Less Crests
The amount of crests required to purchase the Nascent Gilded Harbinger Crest is 60 Gilded Harbinger Crests. It has been reduced from 90 to 60 Gilded Harbinger Crests, making it quicker to get yourself some max item level gear and feeling less punishing with the weekly crest cap to make crafted gear and still be able to upgrade your other gear.
These changes combined make upgrading gear and crafting at the highest item levels in patch 11.0.7 and onwards easier than ever.
