Windrose takes a surprising almost Soulslike approach to combat with stamina management, positioning, and well-timed parries (Perfect Blocks) all taking centre stage. That said, weapon choice still shapes your entire build, and some weapons are simply better than others at this stage of Early Access.
In this guide we'll look at a bunch of the best weapons, how to find them, what they do, and why they are so good. While also explaining the key stats for weapons and how to ascend them from Rare to Epic.

Windrose Weapon Types and Stats
There are eight weapon types in the game so far: Rapier, Saber, Mace, Halberd, Greatsword, Pistol, Musket, and Blunderbuss. Each weapon type scales with a specific stat: Precision, Strength, or Agility.
Mastery is a fourth combat stat, increasing your critical hit; however, no weapons scale with Mastery in the same way as the other three.
- Precision: scales Rapiers, Pistols, and Muskets. Best for single-target damage and ranged play.
- Agility: scales Sabers, Greatswords, and Blunderbusses. Best for fast combos and AoE clearing.
- Strength: scales Maces and Halberds (and Arboris Saber). No ranged option, purely works on melee.
- Mastery: Increases critical hit chance and affects all weapon types.
Rarity and Ascension: How To Upgrade Your Weapon Tier In Windrose

Pro Tip: Tumbaga Ingots are obtained from Ruins which appear throughout the game, mostly from Foothills onwards.
As with many games, weapons are split into rarity. These are: Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic. The higher the rarity, the better base stats, and the better the weapon scales as it levels up (from D up to S). Rare and Epic-tier weapons also come with unique passive effects. Common and Uncommon weapons have no meaningful passives and cannot be ascended.
Ascension requires spending Tumbaga Ingots at the Weaponsmith Workshop to upgrade a weapon's tier from Rare to Epic, unlocking a new effect/ability. It's one of the biggest power spikes available so prioritise ascending your main weapons early.

Best Weapons In Windrose: Our Rankings
The following tier list ranks each weapon in Windrose by its overall power level, factoring in its weapon class, abilities/passives, any Special Attacks, whether or not it can Perfect Block and much more, discussed below.
Disclaimer: All weapons in Windrose are 'viable' and you should play whatever you enjoy playing. The purpose of this list is just to break down which weapon abilities/effects are most powerful to help you decide which weapons to try out.
Best Weapons In Windrose: S-Tier
The weapons in this tier group are considered absolute best in class and have effects or abilities that entire builds can be shaped around.
| Weapon |
Source |
Why We Ranked It S-Tier |
| Rapier Of Devastation |
Crypts and Ruins (Cursed Swamps) |
The Rapier Of Devastation is an incredible weapon with no drawbacks. It has speed, damage, can be used for Perfect Blocks and also provides self-sustain through its Special Attack heal. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, weapons in the game. Check out our Rapier Precision build if you are interested. |
| Plague Halberd |
Crypts and Ruins (Cursed Swamps) |
The Plague Halberd is likely the best two-handed weapon in the game with incredible damage and an AoE Special Attack that also restores 35% of your health. The heavy attack on this weapon in particular allows you to cleave down enemies like a scythe through corn. |
| Reliable Musket |
Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs |
The Reliable Musket has two very powerful abilities in a faster Reload Speed and additional Critical Damage, being the most important stats for ranged/musket builds. The only ranged weapon we have found to support a viable ranged-only build. |
Best Weapons In Windrose: A-Tier
The weapons in this tier group are powerful and all have unique abilities or effects that allow them to excel but they lack the complete versatility or utility of S-tier choices.
| Weapon | Source | Why We Ranked It A-Tier |
| Arboris Saber | Crypts and Ruins (Cursed Swamps) |
The Arboris Saber is the only melee Plague weapon that doesn't quite make it into the S-tier, but it's close. This weapon's Special Attack deals huge frontal damage and can be cast often, but it lacks the self-healing that makes the Rapier Of Devastation and Plague Halberd so powerful. |
| Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts is probably the best early-mid tier weapon in the game but the reason for it slipping into the A-tier is that it's power level does start to drop off when you reach the Cursed Swamps and gain access to the Plague Weapons. |
| Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs |
Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol is great, but mostly as a side act. It have huge stopping power through it's double-shot, but its Epic ability (+15% damage from all sources) is where it really shines, being a powerful accompaniment to many of the best builds. |
| Soul Eater | Guaranteed Drop: Hands Boss Room |
Soul Eater just barely squeezes into the A-tier. It's a great weapon with an insanely strong AoE Special Attack but what really holds it back compared to other weapons of this tier or higher is the long cooldown time (2m). This prevents it from being useful for farming, for example. |
Best Weapons In Windrose: B-Tier
The weapons in this tier group are decent and often found in different early-mid game builds but lack late-game stopping power.
| Weapon | Source | Why We Ranked It B-Tier |
| Razor | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | Although the Razor is not in the same power league as the Arboris Saber, it is one of the best weapons in the game to use for a crit build thanks to it's passive effects and S tier Agility scaling. With the right set-up, the Razor can deliver huge damage through auto-attacks but lacks a Special Attack and versatility. |
| Dueling Saber | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The Dueling Saber is very similar to Razor, with a slightly higher risk, higher reward playstyle. It suffers the same drawbacks (no Special Attack, no sustain), and has slightly worse scaling but delivers more a punch if you can maintain good uptime on the Perfect Block buff. |
| Cutlass | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The Cutlass is a fan favourite partly because it's a quintessential pirate weapon and partly because it's just fun to use. With the right build you can set up huge combos but it lacks the versatility and clearing speed of superior options. |
| Reliable Pistol | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs |
The Reliable Pistol is a solid pistol thanks to it's powerful Rare effect that allows it to fire three shots without reloading and S-tier Precision scaling. A good choice for an early-mid build but it falls short of being great in the late-game with a lacklustre Epic effect. Also a bullet guzzler! |
| Dragon's Breath | Crypts and Ruins (Cursed Swamps) | Dragon's Breath is the best Blunderbuss but honestly that's not much of an achievement. It can be paired with the Cutlass as they both scale off of Agility for a fun build with some serious stopping power. |
| Plague Pistol | Crypts and Ruins (Cursed Swamps) |
The Plague Pistol is surprisingly weak for a Plague Weapon, with the other three rising to the very top of the rankings. It is only available at Epic, and only has one effect which on its own is very weak but when paired with another weapon, like the Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts or Arboris Saber, can help provide much needed sustain without much DPS loss thanks to passive reload. |
| Sturdy Halberd | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The Sturdy Halberd teeters between B and C tier. It's actually a fairly powerful weapon thanks to its high damage, S tier Strength scaling and bonus crit chance but it has no Perfect Block and no sustain which can lead to clunky combat. |
Best Weapons In Windrose: C-Tier
The weapons in this tier group are fairly weak compared to other weapons in the game and typically have lacklustre effects or effects which don't synergise.
| Weapon | Source | Why We Ranked It C-Tier |
| Executioner | Ancient Grave POI | The Executioner effects are both actually pretty solid and situationally, for example when clearing out camps or farming, can be very powerful with the right build. However, against single targets (Bosses, Plague Crocs, Plague Crushers) it is pretty useless so hard to recommend. |
| Sturdy Rapier | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | Similar to Razor, the Perfect Block window increase is a nice-to-have but not great and the bonus crit damage is poor. You are not going to find much value in a one-handed crit build with the Sturdy Rapier. |
| Bonebreaker | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The effects of Bonebreaker are not powerful enough to offset the loss of Perfect Block. Note that this weapon effect does not scale on Endurance, but how much Stamina you have available when you attack. |
| Dueling Greatsword | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | As with the Dueling Saber, the 'Perfect Block' stacking mechanic is quite clunky |
Best Weapons In Windrose: D-Tier
The weapons in this tier group are the weakest in the game and typically not advised if other options are available. It's worth noting that they are still of course viable options as a result of the consistent auto-attack damage profiles across all weapons, it's just that their effects are generally very poor.
| Weapon | Source | Why We Ranked It D-Tier |
| Smasher | Fishing | Although Smasher is a lot of fun, and we've definitely recommend adding it to your collection, it is ultimately a very weak weapon which can't Perfect Block and (as it cannot be ascended to Epic) only has one effect. |
| Stalwart Greatsword | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The additional Posture Point provides limited value and the Epic effect, although not useless, tries to push the Stalwart Greatsword towards a two-handed crit build which is one of the weaker builds in the game. |
| Buccaneer's Friend | Quest Reward: Glorious Hunters | Muskets already have an incredibly tight spread when standing still so the Rare effect on this weapon is of little value. The bonus damage to animals is niche and mostly worthless outside of maybe some utility in the early game (Savage Boars and Alpha Wolves are no joke!) |
| Crusher | Ancient Grave POI | Although the Crusher is a lot of fun to use, maces are unfortunately one of the weakest weapon classes due to their inability to Perfect Block and a lack of impactful effects. This could have been a reasonably strong early-mid game weapon if the effects (Rare & Epic) were swapped. |
| Sturdy Saber | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | Both of the Sturdy Saber's effects are poor with Stamina management in this game relatively simple thanks to the incredible regen rate provided by the Rested Bonus and as Sabers can Perfect Parry, the additional Posture Point is not really needed. |
| Sturdy Mace | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | Although the additional Posture Points are more useful for maces since they can't Perfect Block, it's not enough to make the weapon useful, especially given the lacklustre Epic effect (Attacks consume 15% less Stamina). |
| Infantry Musket | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The Infantry Musket is mostly a novelty, with an interesting bayonet Special Attack. Unfortunately there is little reason really to want to utilise a musket as a melee weapon and although the Epic effect can help you dodge incoming ranged attacks, the weapon has an abysmal spread compared to the other muskets. |
| Reliable Blunderbuss | Coastal Jungle & Foothills POIs | The inconsistency of the knockdown (Rare effect) and lack of any combat effect from the Epic upgrade results in this Blunderbuss falling right to the bottom of the pack. |
Suggested Early-Mid Game Weapon Set-up
To help you get started, we wanted to suggest a very powerful combo that will last you well past the mid game. It involves making clever use of the fact that both Rapiers and Pistols scale with Precision.
- Suggested Melee Weapon: Rapier Of A Thousand Cuts
- Suggested Ranged Weapon: Reliable Pistol OR Drake's Double-Barreled Pistol

First of all the Rapier is insane, it's bleed effect allows you to tackle large groups of enemies easily and it's incredible attack speed consistently staggers enemies. The Pistols allow you to get in some great follow-up damage whenever the passive reload is finished.
As both weapons scale with Precision, you can ignore Strength and Agility and put all of your points (other than Vitality and Endurance) into Precision. When you get to the Cursed Swamp and you can craft Swamp Pie (+20 Precision) and you can ascend your necklace to the Major Necklace Of Precision (+15 Precision), the damage output is crazy.
Tip: Hiring Black Axel and assigning him to your Cooking Fire before you start crafting Epic food is highly recommended as it's expensive and the extra procs are great.
