Wood is required all throughout Windrose, from crafting your early buildings to building Wooden Planks for your ships, and finally for constructing your idylic pirate hideaway. In this short guide we break down the different methods for obtaining wood at each stage of the game.
1. Farming Wood: Collecting Scattered Logs (Start of Game)
At the very start of the game, this will be your only method however you will pretty much never do it again after that.
2. Farming Wood: Chopping Down Trees (Early-Mid Game)
To farm wood efficiently, you need to chop it quickly using an Axe. Early on, you’ll only have access to a Stone Axe, which does a fine job at the start. You will want to focus on Ficus trees where possible and even better, Ficus Saplings.
The Copper Axe and eventually the Iron Axe are much better options for chopping trees, once you unlock them. These have more attack power, which lets you chop down trees with fewer strikes. A single tree yields around 5-6 Wood.
Tip: If you find two trees which are close to each other, you can chop them both down at the same time. This is a tip that carries all throughout the game, even when you are chopping down Tar Trees in the Cursed Swamp. Trees can also knock down other trees when they are felled if the angle is right!
3. Farming Wood: Merchant Contracts (Mid-Late Game)
By far the easiest way to obtain Wood in Windrose in the mid-late game is to make use of Merchant Contracts. You'll need a fairly steady supply of Piastre but you'll never have to chop down another tree again (other than Tar Trees... and Tainted Trees).
As you can see in the image above, you can order 1, 2, 5 or 10 shipments of Wood, each containing 50 Wood for a maximum total of 500 Wood per order. Orders cost 25 Piastre per box of 50 Wood (no volume discounts) and take 70 minutes to arrive.
Bonus Method: Annihilate The Forest With Your Cannons
So you can also cause deforestation via cannon fire. Simply park up broadside and let the trees have it. It might not be the most efficient method but it is a method. I just tried it out while I was writing this article and came away with 9 Wood and 11 Coconuts. I like Coconuts so that was nice.
